Combining the old with the new.

I have recently completed my first commission which has inspired a new collection of work.

'Nastashia's Collection' 2013, bone china butterfly & moth tiles, mounted on painted wood.

This commission 'Natashia's Collection' has taken the ideas of an older project 'Curious?', 2011 and displayed the concept in the same manor as my recent 'tile collection series'.

'Collection33' 2012 is made up of bone china tiles which have a glazed circle. Some of the tiles also have the addition of either copper wire or fine silver wire. All are inscribed with a number which represents the glaze used.

Intrigued by Cabinets of Curiosities I created a hoard of bone china curios to create 'Curious?'. Hundreds of butterflies, moths, and keys were displayed in a locked Victorian jewellery box, and the viewer was provided with the key and a antique magnifying glass.

I want to use these butterfly images further, built on them with colour and other details to create an intriguing pattern. I plan to first use my bowls as a surface to explore this concept with.

As any maker will say, with their concept the possibilities are endless, and I have believed this also, but this work has really encouraged me. I am excited about my future projects and am eager to see where my work and concepts lead.

ICADF

The Islington Contemporary Art & Design Fair (ICADF) is currently under way with the first weekend of four just finishing.

I am very excited about exhibiting in the forth week of the event, starting with the opening night on Friday 26th October. The following Saturday and Sunday are free and open to the public, but if you would like to visit the preview evening then please don't hesitate to get in touch. I still have a few tickets left and each ticket admits two.


As well as ceramics, week four will show furniture, glass, and product design.

I will be showing 'My Collection' which I exhibited at New Designers, as well as my very latest work.

Artist Seeks Commission!

I am now taking commissions of any size. Whether you are looking for something to decorate your home or a unique gift for someone - Christmas won't be long! I'm sure someone is counting down the days somewhere...

I make a variety of products from big to tiny, all of which come with a range of price tags. Most of my work can be seen on my other posts on this blog or at my Etsy Shop which I add too weekly.

I design and make all my work with care and enjoyment in the lovely Stoke-on-Trent, and post anywhere in the UK. I will also post internationally.

Any questions then please do ask. A commission does not mean something expensive but something which is exactly what you want!

'My Collecton' 2012

This piece of work pictured below is what I produced for my degree show at Loughborough University and it was also on show at New Designers in London the other week.

This is about me collecting my day to day work. Each tile has numbers inscribed into the surface which records the date which it was made, and which glaze was used. I wanted to use this kind of recording or cataloguing to emphasis that this group of ceramic tiles is a collection.

In the past my work has looked into what other people may collect or hoard, but with this piece I wanted to focus on making a collection that is completely my own.

I am interested in repetition and multiples. These tiles depict circles because for me they are the ultimate symbol of repetition, they are never ending. By also using a simple shape instead of an image there is no distraction, you can get straight to what the work is actually about. 

My work always seems to provoke feelings in me of the human soul.  I use circles quite often within my work; I imagine little orbs that are floating and that these orbs could be little souls. If the soul did exist then we would all be never ending like circles.

All my work is for sale. This collection can be sold in individual strips, as a whole, or as many as the customer would like. I designed it this way to make it flexible for customers. There are 15 strips, each made up of 7 tiles.
